Multiple optical features in binary-transition-metal borate glasses

چکیده

Glasses doped with transition metal (TM) ions exhibit rich optical transitions spanning the entire ultraviolet, visible, and infrared spectral regimes. Here we utilize melt-quenching technique to synthesis binary-TM-doped alkali-borate glasses of composition xCuO-(75-x)B2O3-24.7Li2O-0.3Cr2O3, variable copper ion concentrations (x = 0, 0.2, 1.0 2.0 mol %) a fixed amount chromium (0.3 %). We identify several from Cr3+, Cr6+, Cu2+ ions, latter manifests exclusively at longer wavelengths gains noticeably higher intensity Cu additives. Despite Cr concentration being fixed, Cr6+ peaks are quenched Cr3+ signals barely attenuated. This behavior rules out possible phase separation suggests non-trivial interplay between two types TM their ligand, as supported by probing oxidation states electron spin resonance. The crystal field Racah parameters followed an opposite behavior, while band gap was reduced upon doping. These changes correlated structural modifications introduced additives, where anticipate homogenous preferential proximity Cu-Cr within network.

Dependence of N4 upon alkali modifier in binary borate glasses

In this paper we re-examine the alkali dependence of the fraction of four-coordinated borons (N4) in two series of glasses: alkali borates (0·4M2O.B2O3) and mixed lithium caesium borates (0·4(xLi2O+(1-x)Cs2O). B2O3). High field B MAS-NMR experiments were performed to maximise the accuracy of the present results. We found no evidence for an alkali dependence on N4 in either system. In each case ...

“Universal” curve of ionic conductivities in binary alkali borate glasses

Since the discovery of fast ionic conductivity in glasses, there has been a large interest in explaining the diffusion mechanism. With this knowledge one may be able to design new glasses with optimized properties for various applications. It is well known that the ionic conductivity increases rapidly when a network glassformer is modified by the addition of a metal alkali. Despite considerable...

The glass transition temperature of silicate and borate glasses

The dependence of the glass transition temperature on silicate composition as well as on borate composition is discussed. Some new experimental results on borosilicate glass-enamels are put together with the existing literature data. It is demonstrated that in the glass transition interval the activation energy E(Tg) for viscous flow is related to the glass transition temperature. The activatio...

Optical Basicity and Polarizability of Nd3+-Doped Bismuth Borate Glasses

This paper reports on different physical and optical properties of Nd3+-doped bismuth borate glasses. The glasses containing Nd3+ in (25 − x)Bi2O3:20Li2O:20ZnO:35B2O3:xNd2O3 (where x = 1, 1.5, 2 mol%) have been prepared by melt-quenching method. The amorphous nature of the glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies. The physical parameters like dielectric constant, refractive index, ion...
